Stan Lester is a consultant, researcher and systems developer in professional and work-related education and development, and a leading expert on professional standards and qualifications.  He has been sole principal of Stan Lester Developments since 1993, where he has completed or managed over 200 projects for professional bodies, universities, employers and government agencies in the UK, Europe and beyond.  His work has included supporting the initial development of the ‘University for Industry’, working with the heritage conservation and family mediation communities to set up professional accreditation and self-regulation systems, supporting the development of national qualifications frameworks, acting as a partner in LdV and Erasmus+ projects, and research into professional entry pathways, qualifying requirements and competence standards.

Stan has written widely on learning, development and accreditation issues.  He is particularly interested in systems and frameworks associated with education and training and how they can be improved and redesigned through the perspectives of those working with and affected by them.  The main focus of his work concerns professional standards and qualifying processes, work-based learning and accreditation, and qualification systems and frameworks.

Stan has a diploma in training management, a master’s degree in education and a doctorate in professional accreditation.  He is a chartered member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development and a fellow of the Society for Education and Training, and a visiting academic at Middlesex University’s Institute of Work-based Learning.

Outside work Stan enjoys sailing, walking and photography.  He is author of Around the Island: Britain in a hundred days, a sailing travelogue published by Avista Press in 2007.
